How hard it is to learn Pixel Art?

I used to have the impression that, when you draw something, and then you resize it to be much smaller, it would be a sprite/pixel art.
But that's not actually the case. Because I loved game design, I am going to learn pixel art.
What's yur opinion of pixel artistry, is it hard to learn, hard to scale up??

I have never tried pixel art before but I would assume that with a bit of practice it would get easier to do right?

Yes, as with all skills, we get better over time. I'm just trying to gauge interests for ppl to convey how do they practise Pixel Art the way that it could be manageable more

I have dabbled alot with Photoshop back in the days, tried a bit of pixel art back then probably when I was a teen. But yeah I am not a very artsy person. Didn't pursue it enough.

In the other thread we talked about Pentium 4, I mention something that I regret so much for not learning basic skills of pixel art...damn, I was too hooked playing Pokemon games, Breath of Fire, Prince of Qin, Battle Realms, Counter Strike, and several more...
But, better late than never, since I'm gonna pursue game dev as a career, I might as well delve into it now...

Yeah, I do regret alot of thing I never managed to do as a kid but it's alright there is always time to do it now. Like for me, I never played Pokemon until back in 2023 when I first played Fire Red on a Android simulator. Hooked on it ever since, now playing through Legends Z-A. I always feel it's never too late to learn a new skill, you will never know how it would help you in the future.

Very true Nous! I hope and pray that I may earn a living through game design. Should start somewhere first. They say the first step, that triggers momentum, is the hardest. Welp, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going

I have tried learning art and even pursued graphic designing course a long time ago. I must say that learning graphic designing is quite hard. However, things might be different now as now so many people rely on AI a of now. Now many people utilize tools that can easily generate great art for you. However, you can also learn art techniques from websites such as tuts plus.

I agree. Graphic design can be really challenging, especially when you’re learning the fundamentals like composition, color theory, and typography. AI definitely makes things more accessible now, but I still think understanding the basics gives you an edge. I still think doing them manually is more alive

The pixel art look simple until you try it yourself. I tried it once, thinking that it's just a small dots, next thing, the alignment disrupted everything. That's when I realised that it needs patience. It's like drawing but it's more technical.

The simple truth is that nothing good comes easy. When it's about acquiring a skill, it's even more challenging because you constantly have to keep practicing so as to improve better. Once you stop, you're going to become rusty.

It's the same experience I had in sewing of clothes. I stopped for 2 years because of being in a bad spot in life. When I came back, I forgot almost everything I knew. I had to go enroll for another special class to brush up my knowledge.

Hell yeah . There's never a bad time or time too late to start learning. Whenever someone is ready, it's their right time to do so.
