Slayers

I began watching Slayers, starring Lina Inverse about two weeks ago. I've listed to the OP song, Get Along, for years, maybe decades now. Finally, I dove in. My initial reaction, was that it wasn't quite what I expected. I knew that Lina is a mage-- a sorcerer, a powerful one. But I wasn't expecting the comedy, although, this did take place in the 90s, so I shouldn't be too surprised by it. Shows didn't feature darker plot lines for another decade or so (at least, my in my limited observation).

I like how the show takes inspiration from the classic White and Black magic, and also includes Astral as a separate school of magic. It's worth noting that although Lina tends to specialize in Black Magic, that she herself does not intentionally cause harm (to humans who aren't evil...). Anyway now I kinda have a side quest to create a list of the different schools of magic found in various anime.

I found the voice of the English dub for Gaurry to be a little off-putting.... not sure how to describe it, but the voice doesn't seem to fit his brutish stature. But I do find the trope of all brawn and no brains to be a little over-the-top.

Moving onto the second season, I'm really diggin' the OP, Give A Reason. It's now earned it's place in the top five (or so) of Most Repeatedly Played Songs on my Anime Happy playlist.

But having watched all of the first season, and a good part of the second season, I feel confident that I can now properly invoke her characterization in Urd's Sake House. Beware. You might find yourself walking into a Dragon Slave...

I used to watch the anime during childhood. I remember really liking it is so well done and made. I couldn't remember how it ends though, but I remember Gaodi who use the Light Sword got possessed by the enemies. Gaodi, Lina, Zelgadis, cant remember well, but this anime is really good, I think if I manage to find it online I'm going to purchase it to add into my collection

Slayers is that kind of show that will confuse you at first. That 90s style humor is actually not for everybody, but once it clicks, you will enjoy it to the fullest. I am also aware that there is a dub issue because some voices just do not match at all.
