For me, almost everything in Final Fantasy series is entertaining. But seriously, for me FF8 doesn't have contending against it, and if there is, it's only because FF9 musics equal FF8 musics. I'm not sure maybe, but if I were to make some choice, right, FF2, FF7, FFTactics, FF8 and FF9, my favourite installments in this franchise, shoulda belong to one game. Or rather I'd say, if I were to make something like Final Fantasy, I'd combine the elements and concepts of FF2, FF7, FFTactics, FF8 and FFF9.
Now, to the brass tacks.
It resonates with me, because when I was playing FF8, I was in lower middle school, therefore, having something that I can relate to, like the elements of go-to-train-in-mercenary-and-magical school captivates me.
The character development of the FF8 are splendid. One thing I find humourous was that when you were, I think, boarding the Lunatic Pandora, I think, you ran into Biggs and Wedges, they both casually walked by and chatted that they gonna ditch their team, I literally chuckled at their parallel scene xD The concert Irish Jig song is the best fairy-tale-ish banquet celebration song I've thus far heard. This is when Squall started to become mature, and he started to open up more to his comrades and to Rinoa. And the love story between Squall and Rinoa is one of the best romance in fiction that I've ever known yet.
There's only one thing I think should be revamped in FF8. The characters should be able to use magic, or simple magic (like Fire, stead of Fira, or even Firaga or Firaja), without junctioning and equipping a GF. I said this because it only portrays mystical power, and now direct magical power. But I still like the junctioning system though. Still remember junctioning 100% power stats on all stats and man did I have fun, although the time consuming of drawing magic is quiet tedious and should be revamped too.
A lot of theories in gaming present in FF7 and FF8. And while I understand the moral and spiritual lessons of FF9, the only engaging theory about FF9 is the battle against Ozma and Necron.
I will continue speaking more about FF2, FF7, FFTactics, and FF9 later, as I am not much of a talker who could articulate well in English language.
Cheers!
Zack
